Building was built in the late 60s, all internal floors were finished off with Magnesite - a timber-based levelling product extensively used until 1971 for its thermal and acoustic properties - leading to problems once units started installing internal laundries and dishwashers due to water leaks. When water comes into contact with Magnesite, the acid leaches out into the structural concrete slab causing concrete cancer over time. During renovations, most strata’s are removing Magnesite as a proactive approach and repairing the concrete cancer.
